Americans pronounce New Hampshire in the correct ("shur") way. Not sure why they would pronounce English counties differently.

    7. Charlie Clapp

C F C There's Leicestershire, Oxfordshire, Rutland and Warwickshire, Northamptonshire is next door, D G7 Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Lincolnshire, Huntingdonshire and there's more, like C F C Suffolk and Essex and Surrey and Sussex and Nottinghamshire in the centre, D G7 C Devon and Cornwall and Dorset and Somerset, Kent and what comes after Kent? Hmmm... F C Westmorland, Cumberland, also Northumberland and county Durham below, there's D G Gsus4 G7 Lancashire, Gloucestershire, Derbyshire, Cheshire, 11 more counties to go! C F C Shropshire and Staffordshire, Berkshire and Hampshire and Herefordshire next to Wales, there's D G7 Hertfordshire, Middlesex, Worcestershire, Wiltshire and Yorkshire with all of the dales, and C C7 F D Buckinghamshire's the end of the list, there's no need to sing anymore, 'cause we're G7 C F C not doing Scotland or Wales or new ones invented in 1974.

    8. rayranja

I only clicked on this video today just to hear the map man song

    9. Arthur Terrington

Rutland likes to claim it's the smallest county in England, and this was true at the time of Domesday Book. However City of London later took that title, and CoL remains the smallest county in England to this day. In terms of modern ceremonial counties, the de facto geographical counties of England; Rutland is now either fourth and third, depending on whether the tide is in or out around the Isle of Wight (yes, really!) The 'horrible' name of Cumbria actually gave its name to Cumberland. Although the county only came into existence into 1974, the term Cumbria(n)had been used for to describe the area a long time before that-- Cumbrian Mountains is a notable example of this.

    10. Matt Nisenoff

I have no idea what any of this meant but enjoyed the video. Thank you.

    11. fastmongrel

How can you tell whether a person you have just met comes from Yorkshire. Just wait 30 seconds and they will tell you how great Yorkshire is and how proud of being a yorkshireman they are. Then ask them where they live and they will often answer "Surrey"

    12. Simone Worsley

What about Norfolk and Suffolk? Where does the origin of those county names come from?

      1. Jay Foreman

North Folk and South Folk of the Kingdom of East Anglia.

    13. jazeolo

I have never felt more victimised as someone from Rutland

    14. ThriftJunkGaming

as an American I'll never fully be able to understand this.

    15. The Emperor's Shoeshiner

But the EU was too cumbersome and confusing for you guys...

    16. zedxx

I can't with the sock doing work at Starbucks

    17. Ahmed Jafar

Rutland: Exists. Map men: And I took that personally.

    18. Tucker Cobble

it's sad to see it end, i hope further projects see the level of humour and mirth in this series though.

    19. Modular

Quite funny but you both look like smackheads

    20. Deep Malya

The English is the nightmare for phonetics…..it uses Latin script but have Germanic,Scandinavian,Celtic and romance roots….so what u write and what u spell is much different…..

    21. Kristian Evans

      Madman you’re my heroes

    22. James Germaine

You two have to be cousins

      1. Jay Foreman

        No we don’t.

    23. Lee Beardsell

A tip to anyone trying to do the Yorkshire dialect. The T’ sound does NOT replace the word “THE.” The just isn’t said in Yorkshire, it’s completely left out. T’ (Or Teh’ or Ta’ depending on the exact Yorkshire accent) replaces the word “To.” For example, “I’m going to the shops, do you want anything?” becomes in Yorkshire “A’m off T’ shops, want owt?” In contrast, “Will you let the dog out?” becomes “Let dog owt will thez?” Notice “To The shops” is “T’ shops” where as “The dog” is just “dog”

    24. richard slater

Interesting and informative thank you but, guys, that “comedy” routine is pure Partridge.

    25. Alex Watson

How long has Haily from Coronation street been a presenter on this?

    27. wuoi zuiu

    31. Alexander Byron

      Let’s have FEDERALISM 🙌🏼

    32. SeventhSwell

Having just discovered Map Men and binged quite a few episodes, I love the bit where in each episode you're slightly closer to each other. Another four years of these and one of you will have to be in the other's lap.

    33. Ben Norwood

Why does England fail when it comes to local news channels

    34. misomicro

      Hilarious. Not

    35. whatdonow

    36. Temetsi

    37. Nora Vlogs

As someone who grew up on Wingerworth, you just gave me an aneurysm

    38. Spencer Doran

Great video guys. Fun fact that the south part of Cumbria still has a postal code starting with LA instead of CA.

      1. Spencer Doran

@Jay Foreman oh wow, so that means CA must for for Carlisle? Every day is a school day 😀

      2. Jay Foreman

Postcodes are entirely unrelated to counties. The LA postcode stands for Lancaster, not Lancashire.

    39. Dyllan Anderson

Wow map men lasted a heck of a lot longer then I was expecting.

    40. ColourfulYT

Nan used to live in ugley, nice area boring tho

    41. Sam Gilfellan

Only noticed the postman pat song the second time through!😂

    42. Maverick G17

Cornwall is a country, not a county.

    43. richard etchell

Lovely amount of cultural appropriation here lads, thanks for deepening the bigotry. Also when we say t'shops, the t = to, and "the" is pronounced via a glottal stop immediately before the leading syllable of shops (or whatever noun you are going to or talking about). Now stop taking the mick out of stuff you do not understand, its a display of ignorance & bigotry, and its one of the reasons we (not me) voted to leave the EU, cheers.

    44. PF Bilyeu

      Funny!!! Clear as mud!

    45. Cosmo

The funniest thing is digging deep and learning about all the petty rivalries in the counties and cities, North vs South, Liverpool vs Manchester, Yorkshire vs Lancashire, London vs Everywhere Else, though most of them are one sided, it's just one group whinging about their supposed "rival", while said rival doesn't even think about them

    46. MomoJojo

Tha'll know thi's in Yorkshire when thi is

    47. louis motte

lol cornish people are gonna be mad, surely they are the most proud of their county in england as opposed to yorkshire

    48. blossom trees

AS A CUMBRIAN PLEASE DO CUMBRIA - it’s brand new and was Westmorland and then used to be Westmorland and Eden ffs it’s so confusing, I’m born right in the middle of Yorkshire and Cumbria and Lancashire and it’s just really hard to identify with any of the counties tbh edit: also how every county has about three different nhs trusts and how that works ! aha - this country is small but complicated

    49. mikego

I think i,ll have a lie down now.

    50. Nathan Dunn

I’m from the West Midlands… no idea where this was pre-1970’s 🤷🏻‍♂️

These guys could've been interesting, but instead, went for humorous and ended up failing on both accounts.

    59. KJ C

      im not even british

    60. The Cornish Piskie

Cornwall seems to be similar to Yorkshire in the case that it does greatly matter if you're from Cornwall or rather 'Cornish'. In Cornwall's case is probably due to the Celtic part since it has its own language. Devon also matters, but that tends to just be because Cornwall and Devon have a rivalry.

      1. Simon Foxwell

Devon people have distinct DNA from the Cornish and the Anglo Saxons.

    61. mikhailv67

Australia doesn’t have this wonderful history. Other than a few very cool aboriginal names which do sound really interesting. We ha have towns and suburbs. Called Cronulla, Kirawee, Parramatta, Woolloomolloo which I can never spell correct. Some good ones are the plural towns like Wagga Wagga which means crows, many of which. Locally it’s known as just Wagga, just once. Otherwise we just copied GB. Many towns are named after patrols, kings & Lords….

    62. Josh White

Excuse me. The county town of Wiltshire is Trowbridge. Can we, as a result, rename it to Trowshire?

    63. Alejandro

That bit with the ukulele made me expel air through my nose slightly stronger. Good for you!

    64. Anthony

    65. Ayman Rahim

I have never heard the word “county” so many times

    66. Lee Bolton

    67. Curtis Franks

I tried to figure this mess out for myself once, years ago. You two should be commended for the pain which you must have endured in order to put this video together.

    68. Curtis Franks

As a native of the Mistake on the Lake, I sometimes wish that the unpopular experiment of Cleveland (Ohio) would disappear too.

    92. Typically Thomas

I wonder if the mention of taking taking Citation Needed as their answer was a joke about Tom Scott, considering Jay and Tom are friends and almost everyone in Citation Needed is from Yorkshire

    93. VC YT
